Oriel Kyffin Williams

During the Summer of 2008 Oriel Ynys Môn proudly opened the doors to its new gallery - Oriel Kyffin Williams, an event that was eagerly anticipated by art lovers everywhere. The new £1.5m gallery was officially opened by the Marchioness of Anglesey with guests from all over Wales and the UK coming together to share in the celebration.

Sir Kyffin Williams was a passionate advocate for the arts in Wales and was an active and enthusiastic supporter of the work of Oriel Ynys Môn since its opening in 1991. The new gallery is a permanent and fitting tribute to one of Wales’ most celebrated and respected artists.

Sir Kyffin Williams was wholly supportive and enthusiastic about the new gallery. He was involved from the outset in the location and design of the gallery. His ideas and suggestions were incorporated into the plans, which received his seal of approval before his death on September 1st, 2006.

Isle of Anglesey County Council Leader, Councillor Phil Fowlie, said, “ Oriel Kyffin Williams will serve as a fitting tribute to the man’s artistic achievement as well as a permanent home for more than 400 donated works of art. The new gallery will also provide a major boost for the arts on Anglesey, and allow the people of Wales and beyond to share and enjoy Kyffin Williams’ work”.

Oriel Kyffin Williams has been financed by Isle of Anglesey County Council, Isle of Anglesey Charitable Trust, Sir Kyffin Williams Trust, Wales Assembly Government, the Arts Council of Wales and individuals.
