Impressions of Wales

Impressions of Wales is a group show produced by artists that have a connection with Wales. Using a variety of media and techniques the theme is explored through traditional and non-traditional working practices including painting, drawing, installation, video and photography. Each artist has interpreted Impressions of Wales through an individual response in relation to their own discipline allowing ideas and themes to evolve that will challenge and capture preconceptions and observations and ultimately create an impression of a diverse and picturesque country.

From field, farm and sea

These paintings of Anglesey represent a continuation of my engagement and involvement in making oil paint, through an effect of the emotions and intellect, intensify a response to Nature and the visible world, to make the viewer see as though for the first time a heightened landscape, a recognition of a beauty reborn.

Diary of a Year and Other Thoughts

After twenty five years living at North Stack, Holyhead Mountain, I reluctantly moved inland to a cottage one thousand feet above Llandderfel, Bala. The contrast to the sea and that special silvery light, to the ‘greenness’ of a rural environment, is a challenge technically and emotionally. Someone suggested that my work would change and it certainly underwent a struggle to produce anything worth framing. After many years I now had a garden to look after, set against the surrounding fields and mountains. Gradually a theme emerged from the unfolding seasons. There has been a change and one that delights in tackling the luminosity and pattern of vegetation: birth in spring, the glory of summer, the golden ripeness of autumn and the hibernation and death in winter. This is the story of a year.

Luned Rhys Parri & Tegwyn Francis Jones

Luned Rhys Parri
Luned Rhys Parri has worked for more than 20 years as a professional artist. Her main interest has been in portraying the way of life of ordinary individuals, in settings well-known to the artist in north Wales.
This exhibition, however, includes a number of works inspired by the artist’s travels in northern Spain. She has recently visited Galicia and Euskadi, countries which, like Wales, are concerned to protect their native languages.
Luned’s technique is a unique combination of three dimensional modelling, painting and collage. Examples of her work now form part of numerous private and public collections. She has also worked as resident artist with the National Library of Wales and other public bodies and with TOSTA Cymru. On a visit to Patagonia in 2014, she created a series of works portraying the way of life of those emigrants from Wales who still speak the language in Argentina.

Tegwyn Francis Jones
This work is a fusion of different techniques and ideas. The techniques are varied and encompass 3 dimensiol work, painting and printmaking. The ideas explored contain elements of language, mythology and memory. These at times run parallel to one another but sometimes cross over and intermingle one with the other. Many of the images produced are based on a specific landscape and environment with the intention of creating debate and engaging the imagination.
